About this opportunity
The Berenson Fellowship is a residential research fellowship at I Tatti in Florence, Italy, part of Harvard University. It supports scholars researching “Italy in the World” and the transnational connections between Italy and other cultures during the Renaissance, broadly covering the 14th–17th centuries. Up to four fellowships are awarded each year, with a duration of 4 or 6 months.
Requirements
- Must already hold a PhD at the time of application.
- Cannot be pursuing a second PhD.
- Must submit a specific research project related to “Italy in the World.”
- Must be able to conduct most of the research in Florence.
- Must be conversant in English and have familiarity with Italian.
- Applicants from all nationalities are welcome.
- Priority is given to early- and mid-career scholars.
- Must provide two letters of recommendation by 21 November 2026.
