About this opportunity
The Miles Morland Foundation Writing Scholarships support African writers by providing financial assistance to complete the first draft of a new book in English. The programme is open to writers of fiction and non-fiction and is designed to give recipients the time and financial freedom to focus on writing. Scholars are expected to produce at least 10,000 new words each month during the scholarship period.
Requirements
- Be writing in English.
- Be born in Africa, or have both parents born in Africa.
- Submit 2,000–5,000 words from a published work that has been offered for sale.
- Provide proof of publication and proof that the work has been commercially available.
- Submit a 400–1,000-word proposal describing the new book to be written.
- Submit a 200–300-word biography.
- Provide proof of African birth (or proof that both parents were born in Africa).
- The proposed book should be at least 80,000 words (fiction or non-fiction).
- Academic theses, scientific research, religious texts, and political works are generally not eligible.
