About this opportunity

The FRIAS Sustainable Governance Senior Fellowship Programme supports outstanding senior researchers based at African institutions to conduct independent research in sustainable governance at the University of Freiburg, Germany. Fellows spend six months at FRIAS between 1 September 2027 and 31 August 2028, benefiting from an interdisciplinary research environment, collaboration opportunities, and access to the University's academic resources. The programme is intended for researchers in the Humanities and Social Sciences whose work contributes to sustainable governance.

Requirements

- Hold a completed PhD. - Have at least eight years of postdoctoral research experience. - Be based at an academic or research institution in an African country (all nationalities are eligible if based in Africa). - Have at least five peer-reviewed publications published since 1 January 2017, including at least one single-authored or co-authored publication. - Have completed at least six months of research or study at an academic institution outside the country where you obtained your first academic degree. - Have obtained a Master's or PhD degree in an African country. - Submit a research proposal focused on sustainable governance within the Humanities or Social Sciences. - Obtain a letter of cooperation from an academic partner at the University of Freiburg. - Meet all application and documentation requirements.
