United Nations Nippon Foundation Fellowship 2027

The United Nations–Nippon Foundation Fellowship is a nine-month professional training and research fellowship designed for mid-level government officials and professionals from developing countries working in ocean affairs and the law of the sea. The 2027 programme has two phases: a three-month training programme at UN Headquarters in New York, followed by a six-month research placement at a participating academic host institution. The programme aims to strengthen participants' capacity to develop and implement policies relating to oceans, maritime affairs and the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

- Be 25–45 years old. - Hold at least a first university degree or equivalent qualification. - Be a national of a developing State. - Be a mid-level government official or mid-level professional working directly on ocean affairs and/or the law of the sea. - Demonstrate the ability to undertake advanced academic research and study. - Have a strong command of spoken and written English. - Be available for the full nine-month programme and in-person participation. - Submit a proposed research/study programme relevant to ocean affairs or the law of the sea. - Submit the required nomination form from the appropriate government/institutional authority. - Provide a valid national passport.
