The Humboldt Research Fellowship supports highly qualified researchers from outside Germany who want to conduct an independent research project in collaboration with a host researcher at a German research institution. It is available to researchers at two career stages: postdoctoral researchers and experienced researchers, and is open across academic disciplines
Requirements checklist

Be a researcher from outside Germany.

Have an academic qualification equivalent to a PhD.

Postdoctoral applicants: doctorate completed within the last 4 years, or expected to complete it before the relevant selection meeting.

Experienced researchers: doctorate normally completed within the last 12 years, with an established independent research profile.

Experienced researchers must generally hold a position such as assistant professor, lecturer or head of an independent research group.

Have a strong publication record.

Develop an independent research proposal.

Secure a suitable academic host at a German research institution.

Provide expert references and the required host statement.
