About this opportunity

The Allingham Flash Fiction Competition is an international writing competition for adult writers, held as part of the 2026 Allingham Arts Festival in Ballyshannon, County Donegal. Writers are invited to submit original flash fiction of no more than 700 words. The competition is open internationally, with a €300 first prize and the opportunity for the winner to read their work at the festival's awards ceremony.

Requirements

- Be 18 years or older by 7 November 2026. - Writers from any country may enter. - Submit original flash fiction. - Each piece must be 700 words or fewer, excluding the title. - A maximum of 5 flash fiction pieces may be submitted per entrant. - Entries must be written in English. - Entries must be typed using: - 12-point Arial or Times New Roman - A4 format - 2 cm margins - 1.5 or double spacing. - Include the title, page number and total page count on each page. - Do not include your name or personal details on the manuscript itself. - Each entry must be submitted as a separate DOC, DOCX or PDF file for online entries. - AI-enhanced work is not accepted. - Entries that have been published elsewhere or have won first place in another writing competition before 7 November 2026 are ineligible. - First-place winners of the 2024 and 2025 Allingham Poetry or Flash Fiction Competitions cannot enter.
