SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program 2027

The Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship-for-Service Program provides full tuition support, an annual stipend, internships and guaranteed civilian employment with the U.S. Department of Defense after graduation. It is available to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing approved STEM disciplines at accredited U.S. universities.

- Must be a citizen of the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or United Kingdom. - Must be 18 or older by January 1 following the award year. - Must have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. - Must be pursuing or intending to pursue a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree in an approved STEM discipline. - Must attend or plan to attend a regionally accredited U.S. college or university. - Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance. - Must request 1–5 years of scholarship funding. - Must complete required summer internships for awards longer than 1.5 years. - Must accept a post-graduation civilian employment commitment with the DoD equivalent to the length of scholarship funding.
