The CHRHS Visiting Scholar Program at Brown University provides a short-term academic affiliation for established scholars with PhDs and human rights/humanitarian practitioners to conduct their own research and writing while engaging with the Center's intellectual community. For 2027, the Center has particular interest in asylum and immigration rights and environmental justice and rights, although applications in other human rights and humanitarian studies areas are welcome.

Requirements checklist

    Must be an established scholar with a PhD or a practitioner in human rights/humanitarian studies.

    Open to US-based and international applicants.

  3. 03

    Proposed research must fit the Center's thematic priorities.

  4. 04

    Must explain why the research needs to be conducted in person at Brown University.

  5. 05

    Submit a cover letter.

  6. 06

    Submit a research proposal of no more than three pages.

  7. 07

    Submit a CV.

  8. 08

    Provide names and contact information for two references.

  9. 09

    Obtain a brief endorsement letter from a regular Brown faculty member who would sponsor and supervise the visit.
