The Ernest May Fellowship in History and Policy supports predoctoral and postdoctoral scholars whose research applies history to strategic studies and major issues in international affairs. Fellows are based at Harvard's Belfer Center and have access to Harvard libraries and facilities. During the fellowship, they are expected to develop a significant publication such as a book, monograph or comparable research work.
Requirements checklist

Must be a predoctoral candidate or PhD recipient.

Preference is given to History PhD students and postdoctoral researchers.

Researchers from other fields may be considered if their projects have a strong historical focus.

Must submit a CV/resume.

Predoctoral applicants must submit an unofficial transcript.

Must submit a 3–5 page research statement.

Must submit an English-language writing sample of fewer than 50 pages.

Must provide contact information for three recommenders.

Fellows must be able to undertake the fellowship in residence.
