IFRA-Nigeria Research Grants 2027

IFRA-Nigeria is offering small research grants to support individual and collaborative research projects conducted between January and October 2027. The programme supports research involving fieldwork or archival visits in Nigeria and other countries within its West African research mandate. Around a dozen projects are expected to receive support. The grant is particularly suitable for researchers who need financial assistance for fieldwork, archive access, data collection and related research activities. Applicants must explain how their findings will be shared through publications, presentations or other research outputs.
Requirements checklist

Open to second-year Master's students, doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers and established researchers.

No nationality restriction applies.
- 03
Research must focus on Nigeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Niger, Chad or Togo.

The subject must fall within the humanities or social sciences.
- 05
Projects must address at least one of these research areas:
• Beliefs, bodies and health. • Citizenship, gender and mobilisation. • Heritage, environment and cultural change. • Digital humanities.

Applicants must submit a research proposal, budget, CV and motivation letter.

Collaborative projects must identify all participants and explain their roles.
- 08
Applicants must follow IFRA-Nigeria's scientific-integrity and AI-use rules.
